Get a free evaluation Error code 6310 appears while you are exporting time from QuickBooks Time into QuickBooks. The dialog reads: You must select Customer on timesheet marked as Billable. QuickBooks has scanned the batch, found an entry flagged billable with no customer to bill it to, and stopped at that row.
Each entry passes a validation step before it posts. Billable time must name a customer or job, because it becomes an open charge on that customer's account, waiting for an invoice. A billable row with an empty Customer column is rejected on the spot, and the dialog reports 6310 beside the timesheet number.
Nothing has posted at that point. The rest of the batch waits behind the rejected row, which is why the export seems to freeze on one entry.
The most common cause is simple: someone ticked Billable and left Customer blank. One row then holds up the whole batch. Next come the billable defaults in QuickBooks Time, which can mark entries billable without requiring a customer, so a week of time can carry the flaw unnoticed.
Bulk edits and imports come third, setting billable flags on rows that never had a customer. The rarest cause is the one that matters here. The entry shows a customer on screen, but the link between that row and the customer is broken inside the company file, so the export still sees the field as empty.
Check these in order. First, the timesheet number named in the dialog. Second, the Billable box on that entry. Third, the Customer column beside it. Fourth, the billable default and the Require Billable Yes/No setting in QuickBooks Time preferences. Fifth, any recent bulk edit or import that touched time. Then export again.
If assigning a customer or clearing Billable lets the batch through, this was a data-entry issue and you are done. If the same row fails again after the fix, note it. An entry that displays a customer yet still exports as blank points inside the file rather than at the screen.
Most 6310 stops are settings or entry mistakes, and the checks above prove it one way or the other. Damage looks different: the customer is visible on screen but the export keeps rejecting the row, or entries keep losing their customer after the rebuild utility runs. Those signs point to broken timesheet-to-customer links in the data itself.
One boundary matters before you go further. If this export targets QuickBooks Online, the data lives in Intuit's service, and the fix path stays inside your QuickBooks Time settings and Intuit's own support channel. Our repair service works on desktop company files.
When the signs point inside a desktop company file, we repair the file itself. Our engineers rebuild the links between timesheet rows and the customer list and return a file that exports cleanly. Every file gets a free evaluation first, you receive a firm fixed quote before work begins, and there is no fix, no fee. The work is guaranteed.
For anything else you meet along the way, the full <a href="/Quickbooks-Error-Codes.aspx">QuickBooks error code reference</a> lists the codes we cover, and the <a href="/contact-quickbooks-recovery-pro.aspx">contact page</a> starts an evaluation.
Usually not. It means one billable entry has no customer assigned. Fix the row and export again; only a row that fails while showing a customer suggests real damage.
The dialog names the timesheet by number. Open that sheet in QuickBooks Time and read the Billable and Customer columns on each line.
No. Clearing the box keeps the time; the hours simply never reach a customer invoice. Assigning a customer instead keeps them billable.
Yes, the same check runs on exports to QuickBooks Online. If your books are online, the fix stays with your QuickBooks Time preferences and Intuit's support; we repair desktop company files.
