When you run Verify Data from the Utilities menu, QuickBooks examines each line inside your transactions, known as targets, for damage. The total appears as the target count on the Product Information screen, beside your customer, vendor, and item totals. We ask for that count when a file runs slowly, since it shows how much data the file holds and whether condensing would help. A verify that finishes with no errors means the underlying data is intact.
